The Combine at a glance

The Combine starts with an intensive, three month process that will include an entrepreneurship curriculum, an emphasis on market validation and customer development, and mentorship from executives at NYC Media Lab member companies.


January: Kickoff

In January the Combine program will kickoff with an intensive onsite session January 12th and 13th from 10 am to 5 pm, with a welcome event on the evening of the 12th from 6 - 9 pm. Expect an introduction to the Lean Launch Pad methodology, a focus on customer discovery and market validation, and opportunities to meet with teammates and mentors. A dinner will be included on the first night. These first two days of activities will take place at NYU's Leslie eLab, home of the NYU Entrepreneur Institute. On January 19th, teams will meet for their first weekly check-in from 6:30 - 9:00 PM, and present progress on customer discovery.

February and March

Teams will use the majority of the Combine program to advance customer discovery and market validation efforts towards achieving product-market fit. Teams will be held accountable for weekly goals, and will present iterations of their business models regularly. Every Thursday from January 19th through March 30th from 6:30 - 9:00 pm, teams will meet and present updates, and discuss the ongoing Lean Launch Pad curriculum. Special clinics on storytelling and legal issues for startups will be held on Fridays.

On April 6th, teams will meet for a final intensive day as they prep and prepare for final presentations the morning of Friday, April 7th. At the public demo showcase, in front of an invited audience comprised of NYC Media Lab member company advisors, potential investors, and other guests, teams will make their pitch. Each team receives feedback and a 'go' or 'no go' recommendation from a panel of advisors. Select teams receiving a 'go' recommendation will have the opportunity to take advantage of additional resources in the summer of 2017.
